DIAPHRAGM PUMPS
An elastic diaphragm with circular cross-section acts as the piston in piston pumps. The outer circumference of the diaphragm is fixed and connected to a crank system at its center. The movement of the crank transfers to the diaphragm to provide a reciprocating movement in the central region and causes a volume change. The suction and discharge valves are opened and closed in accordance with the movement of the diaphragm. In the diaphragm pump, the liquid is in contact with one side of the diaphragm and is never sealed. It is preferred for pumping liquids such as gasoline or acid where sealing is particularly important.
